Luvsan was a mercenary and Dark Knight operating in Western Coerthas. He dedicated his life to protecting a small frozen settlement at the edge of the wastes — providing food, gil, and safety to the people who lived there. He had a sister.
Appearance
[TODO]
He died three times.
The first was in 1570, when Mores Gwydion lured him to Ishgard and Oversouls into his body. The attempt partially succeeded — not in the way Mores intended, but in the worst possible way. Luvsan’s will was too strong to be fully displaced, but the cost was catastrophic. His body was left puppeteered by rage and duty, wandering Coerthas as a shade: still fighting Auria’s men, still looking for his sister, running on the last things that mattered to him with nothing left behind the eyes.
The second was in 1578, when Liraz found that shade in the middle of another one of Auria’s trafficking operations and put a knife through its neck. She was being transported in a cart. He was there doing what he always did. From her perspective: a terrifying Dark Knight in the middle of a slaughter, with Auria’s face still fresh in her memory. She killed him without hesitation. She took his soul crystal as proof of kill — and because she liked how it looked. She didn’t know who he was. She didn’t care. She was safe. Finally.
The third was inside Woeborn in 1582. His soul crystal, carried for years without that knowledge, became the connection through which his rage at what Auria had done to her became her courage — the thing that gave her the strength to finally run.
History
Auria Van Varus raided his settlement in one of her operations to collect trafficking victims. His sister was taken. Luvsan spent years hunting Auria’s operations in retaliation — slaughtering her men, ruining her income, causing major losses. He was a thorn in her side for a long time.
Two villains destroyed him independently and without ever knowing the other was involved: Auria took everyone he loved; Mores took his body.
In 1570, Mores Gwydion — inhabiting a host body — lured him to Ishgard with a promise of information. The meeting was a trap. Mores attempted to Oversoul into him — and partially succeeded. Luvsan’s will was too strong to be fully displaced, but the Oversoul shattered what was left of the man. His body was left puppeteered by the last things he cared about: finding his sister, destroying Auria’s operations. No one home. Just the drive.
By 1574 what remained of him had become a wandering shade — a Dark Knight-shaped thing haunting Coerthas, still slaughtering Auria’s men on instinct, still a genuine thorn in her operations. Auria wanted him dead, or as dead as he could be made.
In 1578, Liraz found the shade during one of Auria’s trafficking operations — she was in a cart being transported to a brothel Auria owned. He was there doing what he always did. She killed him without hesitation and took his soul crystal as proof of kill — and because she liked how it looked. She didn’t know who he was. She didn’t care. She was safe. Finally.
Through the crystal, carried for years without that knowledge, he witnessed what Auria had been doing to her. His rage at that injustice became her courage. He stirred her soul and gave her the strength to run.
Plots
First Death — 1570: Mores Gwydion
Lured to Ishgard under false pretenses. Mores Gwydion attempts to Oversoul into his body. The attempt partially succeeds — Luvsan’s will is too strong to be fully displaced, but the damage is total. His body is left puppeteered by rage and duty, no longer truly him.
Second Death — 1578: Liraz
Liraz kills the wandering shade during one of Auria’s trafficking operations. Proof of kill. She takes his soul crystal — she liked how it looked. Through it, what remains of him begins to witness what Auria has been doing to her. His rage at that injustice becomes her courage.
Third Death — 1582: The Woeborn Fight
Inside Woeborn, Luvsan’s shade manifests as Liraz’s fear of her own Dark Knight abilities. The Woeborn fight forces her to relive the full memory — the cart, the other women, him attacking Auria’s men, the knife, his collapse — and understand, for the first time, what she had actually been seeing.
She can only defeat the shade by letting it stab her — by stopping running from what she is. When she does, the shadow becomes her blade. Luvsan goes dormant. He passed the torch. He was never an antagonist. He was the person who died trying to free her, whose death she caused without knowing it, whose anger at that injustice became the thing that saved her.
