Fury’s Gaze is a private security company that operated as a front for Umbra’s interests in Eorzea. Publicly, it presented itself as a mercenary and security outfit — managing bodyguard contracts, enforcement work, and logistics. In practice, it was Umbra’s ground-level operations arm: a vehicle for mercenary recruitment, sabotage, surveillance, and cover for Auria’s research program. The company’s physical anchor was the research facility in the Western Coerthas Highlands, now known as Auria’s Lab.
Leadership
Lexus Ovicula — an Umbra Phantom — ran Fury’s Gaze as its visible face. He managed cells, organized mercenary groups, and ran surface operations while Auria pursued her research behind the front. Fury’s Gaze gave Umbra’s field operations a legal surface to hide behind.
Operations
Fury’s Gaze conducted open mercenary work as legitimate cover while coordinating Umbra’s active missions beneath it. Known activities include:
- Operating cells across Eorzea under the surface company name
- Delivering Garlean schematics to Vangarde, setting up the Grimstone mining deal at Burning Walls
- Running sabotage and surveillance operations in support of Umbra objectives
- Managing Auria’s subject acquisition and transport to Auria’s Lab
Notes
Fury’s Gaze as an organization effectively ceased to exist after Auria’s death in 1582. Lexus Ovicula continued operating under Umbra directly. The research facility retained the Fury’s Gaze name colloquially, though it has since been referred to as Auria’s Lab.
